The Birth Of Yemma Goods.

Hi everyone. In the previous post we told the story of how us ; Oussama & Mouad ; the founders of Yemma Goods met. And today we’re extending it to : The Birth Of Yemma Goods.

It is January 2019 and we just rented an apartment on the roof of an old lady's house just 3 min walk from the LARGEST urban market in Africa : Souk El Had. It covers more than 13 hectares and contains over 3000 shops ranging from food, clothes, spices, cosmetics, fruits and vegetables, home decor and furniture…etc. 

One of those categories is the Moroccan handmade artisanal decor and furniture. And we always admired the art in those items, which will be the inspiration to start Yemma Goods and export that beauty to American homes.

Mai 2019, Oussama gets accepted in the US DV Lottery program. Goes to the city of Marrakech, the vibrant city and the heart of Moroccan artisanal, to make money for the expenses of moving to the US, but also gets inspired more and more.

Like any new immigrant in the US, Oussama starts Ubering, cashier and similar jobs. At this point we lost contact. Few months later and covid-19 breaks out, we get in touch again, talk about where life takes each of us. And just like that one day we talked about sourcing discounted items from various US retailers and reselling them.

We did that for 2 years but unfortunately, we didn’t achieve much success !  

December 2022 : Oussama comes to visit Morocco, we get in a car and travel to different cities including Marrakech, Essaouira and Agadir. We are reminded that we have this amazing artisanal industry that we admire, and we decide to pursue it and forget about everything else we were doing before that. After that, we instantly started selling handmade thuya wood jewelry boxes on Etsy. 

April 04 2023 : Yemma Goods llc is officially a company in Massachusetts.
